Recipe box

recipeboxrecipebox-stackedI have wanted a place to store my recipes for years. I’ve looked at buying index card boxes and decorating them, I’ve looked into making a book and decorating that. I’ve had all kinds of ideas.

Then I found this file at svgcuts.com And the rest was history. After years (quite literally, years) of planning and indecisiveness, this box took maybe an hour to make!

Had I given more thought to it, these aren’t the colours I would have chosen, but I was moved to make it and so used the paper my grubby little hands pulled out of the pile first. (Mostly it’s from Die Cuts with a View). I’m quite ready to call it done!

Next I went looking for a cute ‘index card’ template to print my recipes on. Couldn’t find one I liked so I made my own – you can see a peak of one in the bottom picture. I think I spent longer making the card template than I did actually making the box. Now all I have to do is type up the rest of our favourite recipes!

The yellow version

I was so pleased with the black and pink version of the butterfly picture that I decided to make another one. Quite obviously this is a yellow and white version!

I think these could be made in just about any colour combination. And perhaps with different shapes other than butterflies. (Although it pains me to say this, not everyone feels the way about butterflies that I do!)

What do you think? Any suggestions for colours and/or shapes? I’m open to ideas and I’d love to hear yours!

Some wedding related creations

I’ve been promising to show some of the things I made for my sister’s recent wedding, and here they are! Both were made using the Silhouette Cameo.

The names on the top of the seating chart were cut using the Cameo from fairly thick glitter paper, and the machine had no problem with it. The harder part was getting the letters to stick after  cutting them! (Wet glue was the answer!) The table plans at the bottom were made using the Print & Cut feature which is rapidly becoming my go-to method of making anything!

The bears were made at the specific request of the bride – and were also cut using the Cameo. The rest of the guests had their names on hearts or butterflies, which I thought I had a picture of, I will have to dig for one!

I’d just like to mention that I receive nothing from the Silhouette people, I just love their machine!
